  7. The Information Processing Society of Japan hosted the IFIP General
  8. Assembly meeting in Tokyo last September. The IPJS which started in
  9. April 1960 with 800 members has grown to greater than 32,000 members.
  10.  
  11. A. Melbye (Denmark) and A. Balasubrahmanian (India( were reelected to
  12. serve as Treasurer and Vice-President respectively. Jacques Fourot
  13. (France) resigned after 12 years of service as Secretary. Graham Morris
  14. (UK) was elected as Secretary.

  16. Dr. Prem Gupta, recently past president of the International Council
  17. for Computer Communications (ICCC) was selected as Program Chair for the IFIP
  18. World Computer Congress to be held in Canberra, Australia in 1996. Ron
  19. Uhlig, formerly chairman of TC 6 (Data Communications) who now serves
  20. both as ICCC president and General Chairman of the IFIP WCC '94 to
  21. be held in Hamburg, reported on the status of the WCC Hamburg. Mark
  22. your calendars now for this exciting Congress on computers and
  23. communications to be held the last week of August in Hamburg in 1994.

  28. The General Assembly unanimously approved the creation of the Isaac
  29. L. Auerbach Award for service in support of the IFIP mission. All IFIP
  30. member societies have been invited to make nominations. The first award
  31. will be presented at the opening session of the WCC in Hamburg. The
  32. late Isaac L. Auerbach was a founder of IFIP.

  34. The Kristian Beckman Award, given by TC 11 to recognize an individual
  35. who has significantly contributed to the development of information
  36. security, especially for achievements with an international perspective,
  37. was presented for the first time to Professor Harold Joseph Highland
  38. (USA).

  43. organizing an International Working Conference on Upper Layer Protocols,
  44. Architectures, and Applications (ULPAA) to be held in Barcelona, Spain
